Child Labor

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

In countries where children are working very young in factories: the cause is poverty.  “Should I send my child to work, or send them to bed hungry?”  This is not new.  Children have been working on farms forever.

The cure?  Fix poverty. How?  Rule of law, individual liberty, economic freedom and property rights.

It’s the governments of these countries (communism, plutocracy, dictatorship, socialist) that doesn’t get it and causes their people to stay in poverty and take desperate personal action.

Do you support worldwide freedom as the solution?

Great post, in that it helps to reflect on our current state of affairs in North America. I recently read an interesting article about hunger and poverty in the United States in National Geographic. Amazing that a democratic country can find itself unable to provide for it’s people, just as a communist/dictatorship/socialist country can.

I can’t help but wonder if we’ve gone too far to the other end of the spectrum. We have a larger urban population than ever before, with a smaller rural farming population. We have more government regulation on quality control, less places to sell our wares, and more taxes to pay as we become more profitable. In many ways, we had an easier time providing for our families when our buyers were local, and our towns were still a community where everyone took care of one another.

I support ending hunger around the world– but before we start to condemn others, we should be cognizant of our own shortcomings.

Good points but how do explain this …

A new report released this week by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) reveals alarming child poverty rates within affluent, or ‘developed’, nations. The US ranks second highest among all measured countries, with 23.1 per cent of children living in poverty, just under Romania’s 25.6 per cent.

It is really too bad that Government and leaders do not consider the people in their own country as their people. At least they don’t treat them as such.
Thanks for being such a great organization and caring for your dealers.
So sorry for your recent hardships. Take care.
