Knowing this we can use the same strategy against our competitors who want to gain something to destroy the company. You figure out what they crave and give it to them freely and an extra bonus, this way you gain the upper hand and control over what and how much they will get.

Because once they receive their wish and the bonus they give up the chase and think that you are their ally who they can trust.

What is the worst that can happen to someone or a business? Get destroyed or suffer for and eternity? Some are immune to that fear and it makes them bold because regardless how you look at it death is innevitable.
