Next month I will be at the starting line of the longest non-stop cross country race in the world in my third attempt to finish it solo on a dirtbike, and be the oldest person of fewer than fifty riders to ever accomplish the feat.
For the months before the race, the last two years I worried. It will be difficult. It will be dangerous. It will be painful. This year I have decided in advance – if I do not finish it’s not a problem. I will just go back the next year and finish. If I don’t finish then, I will just go back again. And again.
I have resolved in advance to accept the worst that can happen if it happens. Now I can work to make sure it does not happen. I am nearly worry-free as I prepare.
What are you worrying about? Can you resolve to accept the worst if it happens, so you can move on and work to make sure the outcome is good?
This well be the year Larry, never quit. You and your son will have a great and safe race. Keep making memories. You’re a good man, respected and loved by all that know you. Never stop living. “Best Day Ever”!
Now you got me worried sir. Who’s going to send the daily emails while you’re dirt biking….?? ?
Good Luck and you can make it through the race, you’re a beast LJ!!
Yay! Glad to hear this! Excited to read more about it!!
I think these feelings are part of human DNA. You have never been a person to give up on anything . Your life has always inspired me & my family. Best of Luck & God Bless you both!!
You’ve got this! And remember, 52 is the new 42. You are just a kid. Go get ’em. Good luck, Larry! Muy bueno.
Great wisdom regarding worry, thanks
Reminds me of someone suggested to me long ago that as humans we make some things more important than others, that is the nature of a game and “winning “. When we forget that we chose that game, and we made it up, then we worry about losing. You have created a bold game, very inspiring to me and many others. Have a blast playing it. Be safe and conquer that course
You will finish or you won’t finish
